Rashidi Yekini (23 October 1963 – 4 May 2012) was a Nigerian professional footballer who played as a striker. He is widely considered one of the greatest African footballers of all time.
Career: Yekini began his professional career in Nigeria, playing for several clubs before moving to Côte d'Ivoire and then to Europe. He played for clubs in Portugal, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia.
National Team: He was the all-time highest goalscorer for the <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Nigerian%20national%20team">Nigerian national team</a>, scoring 37 goals in 58 appearances. He represented Nigeria at five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning the tournament in 1994, where he also was the highest goalscorer. He also played in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups. His goal against Bulgaria in the 1994 FIFA World Cup was Nigeria's first-ever goal in a World Cup tournament.
Awards and Recognition: He was named African Footballer of the Year in 1993.
Later Life and Death: After retiring from football, Yekini battled depression. He died on 4 May 2012 in Ibadan, Nigeria.
Legacy: Yekini remains a national hero in Nigeria and is remembered for his goal-scoring prowess and dedication to the <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Nigerian%20national%20team">Nigerian national team</a>.
